Memories of people feeling comfortable enough to share their fears but also at ease enough to laugh. All that we want the Soup Kitchen to be.
An unusual Kitchen tonight. As last week not particularly busy, but full-on for lots of different reasons. That said, by 7.00pm we were down to about 15 regular clients who all said they like it when it is quiet. Tonight we had Chess, Battleships and the regular card games. It was lovely to see 'D'[...]
A quieter night than usual tonight with only 30 clients, but it was a lovely and happy atmosphere. One of our lovely faithful clients (since day one) had his birthday, as a result we sang happy birthday. He shares it with one of our volunteers so happy birthday was sung twice! Lidl donated food for[...]
A good Kitchen this evening I thought. A quieter week than some previous as far as number of clients, but no less busy. I went to Waitrose this morning as I do every Thursday morning and after they found our bread, they came down with a huge trolley of finger bread rolls. There were more[...]
Thanking those for the speedy response, we now have some 2,000 sugar sachets. We at the Newbury Soup Kitchen are continually thankful for the magnanimous support from the local community, especially Caroline and the Hungerford Ladies for all your support. That said, we are looking for strong plates, flasks, sleeping bags and tents which you[...]
For me that was one of the nicest sessions we have had, 37 in total, again less than other weeks. We welcomed a new volunteer this evening but as usual it was the situation that I had to leave him to just get on with it. The first hour is always so busy with people[...]
It was another busy week where we welcomed 37 clients. Not our busiest in numbers by any means, but it definitely felt full on tonight. Healthwatch are going to try to help one of our younger lads with his tooth issue. He is in terrible pain but has a phobia about dentists! One of our[...]
This is our 39th week we seemed very busy even though we only had 33 people sign in. Just before we opened a lovely teacher from Enborne Primary School turned up with food for the Soup Kitchen from their Harvest Festival collection. Three children came with her also all 8yrs old, her twin boys and[...]
The produce that has been donated into our in-store donation basket which is amazing, but also over £67.00 in cash from the collection tins.
We didn’t know how the Michaelmas Fair would impact the Soup Kitchen this evening. Our numbers were slightly down this week. However, it allowed us to spend quality time with our clients as we weren’t so busy. A session full of laughter and friendship tonight, lots of delicious food as always and a tin of[...]
