The Newbury Soup Kitchen Golf Day is taking place on Thursday 10th July 2025 at the Donnington Valley Golf Club https://www.donningtonvalley.co.uk/golf Donnington Valley Golf Course is widely regarded as a hidden gem. An 18-hole course set in beautiful rolling countryside with a challenging 6296 yards, 18 hole, par 71 from the back tees. Although some of the holes are quite forgiving the closing four are regarded as one of the toughest finishes in the country.
This year's event, hosted at the Vineyard to raise funds for Newbury Soup Kitchen, proved to be a resounding success. With 123 attendees participated in a 19-lot auction. As the evenings grow darker, the nation begins its festive preparations. The sights and sounds of Christmas are everywhere, with families planning gatherings, shopping for presents, and stocking up on festive treats to celebrate with loved ones. Amidst this seasonal cheer, the stark reality of homelessness remains ever-present. In a quiet doorway, a rough sleeper with a donated coffee to help fend off the cold, lonely. During December, many shoppers pause to offer food, money, or small gifts to those on the streets a gesture of goodwill inspired by the Christmas spirit.
What is happening? Due to the overcrowding in Prisons, an Early Release Scheme has been set up in the UK. The Government thought that this would help reduce the pressure on prisons and be a starting step of sorting out the Criminal Justice Systems overcrowding. The increase in sentence length is the main cause of overcrowding. The Crown Court (2023) stated the average sentence is 25% longer than in 2012. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice said the early release system would give probation staff more time to prepare for prisoner's release and set them up with housing and help. This has not been the case, as former inmates are now seen rough sleeping, and re-offending to get back into the prison.

A Fabulous Black-tie dinner, entertainment and auction. All proceeds go to Newbury Soup Kitchen. Rob Rinder MBE will be our auctioneer and MC for the evening. A sparkling wine https://www.allangels.com/ and canapé reception will begin at 7 pm, followed by a delicious 3-course sit-down dinner with accompanying wines. Tickets are £200 per person or tables of 10-12 are available at £2,000. Carriages 1 am.
On 6th and 7th July a team of NSK volunteers will embark on the National Three Peaks Challenge, setting themselves 24 hours to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.
