We appreciate that people are making special efforts to visit us on Thursdays, but the influx of unannounced public visits is causing complications during the operational hours of the Soup Kitchen.
Head torches that can be recharged by winding can be beneficial to rough sleepers when batteries or electricity cannot be found during these shorter daylight hours.
The Newbury Soup Kitchen has been invited to collect donated moneys during the evening, so please enjoy the evening and support our worthy cause this Christmas. Everyone is welcome, and no booking is required, simply register your interest in attending the event on Facebook.
Our peer to peer volunteer Phil has had the brilliant idea of doing a Soup run on a Saturday at 4.00pm at the Wharf. Simple sustenance of hot soup, bread rolls, Pot Noodles tea and coffee were on offer. We also took some hats, scarfs and gloves.
There has been a lot happening recently and we thank local businesses for their help and support. We are now able to receive money donations into our HAVEN bank account. There are concerns for the health of one client and we plan to assist those rough sleepers who do not visit the Soup Kitchen.
Awareness is starting to grow about County Lines Drug Dealing and Cuckooing, which is having an impact in West Berkshire and other areas across the country. Often from major cities such as London, drug dealers will move into new sales areas like West Berkshire and the Home Counties to sell their products.
Two Saints are asking for volunteers to support the SWEP Extended Winter Provision 'night shelter' provision that they are providing. If you feel you can support Two Saints and help rough sleepers during the coming winter months, please contact Matthew Cobbett in the first instance.
The man, thought to be an established rough sleeper and well known to homeless volunteers in the city, managed to remove the lit firework from his pocket but burnt his hand in the process. The public appears to be united in its response to the shocking attack on ex-serviceman.
Accepting the £4,468.00 cheque, Meryl captivated and enthralled the audience as she said an impromptu few words. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic evening, where the funds will help support the homeless and rough sleepers in Newbury.
As always the local community are incredibly generous this time of year. We now have enough tents, sleeping bags and sanitary towels. These will last the next few months, if not more. We will publish an appeal if we need more. In the interim, we are still in need of most items from our Christmas Wish List such as head torches and Lycra boxer shorts
