A cold evening, 43 people in and 36 people through in 6 minutes according to the lovely ladies on the door. We had Broccoli Soup, two big pans of Chicken Curry, Green Beans, a Potato and a Tomato Salad. Fundraising is essential throughout the year in order to help us with our ongoing work. Our week is not just two hours on a Thursday and Saturday afternoons in the Wharf.
We are currently seeking much needed funding for the ongoing development and support for our services. Donate the exact amount of money you choose with JustGiving, the worlds leading online fundraising platform.
Sometimes new people come into the Soup Kitchen who are temporarily in the area, and have found themselves homeless after losing work or due to a relationship breakup.
We are currently running particularly low on rucksacks. Rucksacks are much sought after and we find ourselves assisting throughout the colder months with rucksacks and sleeping bags.
We are always on the look out for new and interesting fundraising ideas and support. Whether your office or business can host some form of coffee morning, or whether your local pub or restaurant can host a quiz evening – we are always searching for new and interesting approaches.
It is coming more and more apparent that this Outreach service is very important to the homeless and vulnerable community and desperately needed. We have a few more clients come to us during the session itself this evening who need to see a nurse or doctor.
During the time Newbury Soup Kitchen has been open we have established relationships with people. Trust goes a long way as many people we deal with have no one as family relations are fractured or broken and peers may not always be trustworthy either.
