Welcome to Newbury Soup Kitchen – Who Are We & What Do We Do?

Supporting Lives, Inspiring Change

At Newbury Soup Kitchen, we believe in being more than soup. We provide freshly cooked meals three times a week for people experiencing homelessness or vulnerably housed across Newbury and West Berkshire, but our work goes far beyond food. Every week, our volunteers prepare nearly 150 meals while also offering essentials such as medical support, haircuts, toiletries, emergency food packs, and warm clothing, ensuring no one goes without basic necessities.

We create a safe, welcoming space where people can relax, connect, and be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. Alongside our sit-down Thursday meal and mobile kitchen services on Wednesdays and Saturdays, we offer vital outreach, helping with housing, health, debt, and substance challenges, as well as providing access to laundry and shower facilities. By partnering with organisations such as the Samaritans, we ensure professional, confidential support is always available.

At the heart of our mission is compassion and advocacy. We stand alongside those who are often unheard, building trust and offering encouragement so they can regain confidence and make positive life choices. Looking ahead, we remain committed to creating a permanent home in central Newbury, bringing all our services under one roof to strengthen our support and partnerships. This flexibility ensures that no matter the circumstances, we remain present, reliable, and accessible all year round.

Newbury Soup Kitchen is a place where someone cares—offering food, friendship, and hope to help people build a brighter future.

Our team of volunteers and our outreach workers tirelessly commit to giving vulnerable people in our society the help they require to find their voice.

It is very important to us that everyone is treated with respect, kindness and treated as equals, not often experienced by many of our clients in their everyday lives.

Our vision is a future where there is a community centre in Newbury where anyone in need can come to receive the care and support, they need to move forward and obtain a healthier, safer happier future. No one should be homeless or struggling.
  • We are welcoming.
  • We are open to everyone; we do not judge, we champion inclusiveness, integrity, empowerment, compassion and innovation.
  • We believe in the strength of an individual to be able to help themselves, we just hold their hand through the process.
  • To prevent homelessness through the provision of bespoke support services.
  • We build trust and relationships.
  • We know we have a bigger impact if we work in collaboration with other agencies and charities.
  • Challenging negative attitudes towards people who are homeless, living with mental health or living in poverty.
